Auskick Indigenous Round
Celebrating NAIDOC Week

Saturday 16th July 2022 - 9.30am to 11.00am

The theme of National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week 2022 is

“Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!”

Over the weekend commencing Friday the 15th July 2022, Yanchep Districts Junior Football Club is extremely proud to be celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people during our NAIDOC Indigenous Round.

Auskickers will be celebrating on Saturday 16th July 2022 with a Welcome to Whadjuk Noongar Country and Smoking Ceremony followed by performances from the very talented local indigenous dance groups, Yanchep Strong & Deadly Koolangka.

A smoking ceremony is an ancient custom that has been used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for tens of thousands of years. The smoke assists in cleansing the area, cleansing the people of bad spirits and it promotes protection and wellbeing to visitors on Whadjuk Noongar country.

On Saturday, Auskickers will be collaborating with one of our wonderful parents, Bree Kucera, to complete a sand mural, which will be on display for the remainder of the weekend. Make sure you take time to check it out!

The mural will fit with this year's NAIDOC week theme - "Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!" This theme shares an important message and calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and protect all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.

In addition to the above great activities, we will also be judging the winner of our NAIDOC Round Colouring-In competition. There are 3 fantastic Sir Doug Nicholls Round Indigenous mini footballs to be won. Be sure to get your entries in to the Auskick Coordinator before 9.30am on the day!
